It probably was just an innocent comment to fans and journalists, but Dorna officials should shudder with piss shivers if Jorge Lorenzo's claim that he will re-evaluate his MotoGP career after the 2014 season is true.
Lorenzo was a guest on stage Thursday with the legendary Giacomo Agostini at the Yamaha booth at the EICMA motorcycle exhibition in Milan. He was asked how much longer he would race, probably in light of Casey Stoner's stunning retirement after this season at age 27.
"I'll take two more years, and then we'll see," Lorenzo said. "At age 15, it's all very funny, but then this bag becomes routine. The death of Marco Simoncelli, it was a blow to all, made us think that it could happen to us, but we know that the risk is part of the sport."
Lorenzo will be 27 at the end of the 2014 season - the same age as Stoner when he retired. Is 27 the new 37 for young men who have spent most of their life in leathers and racetrack paddocks?
